Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone. We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed. 2021 Construction Projects:2021 Project Location Map
2021 Bridge Street: Work this week included pouring foundations for the new signal poles at the intersection of Park Drive and W. Bridge Street, signage installation, seeding, median soil placement, traffic control modifications and roadway removal at the 24th Avenue intersection. The intersection of Park Drive and W. Bridge street is re-opened to three directions of traffic, with east and westbound traffic along W. Bridge Street to open to traffic east of Park Drive to both directions of traffic. Some work will continue to occur along the roadway and at the Park Drive intersection as needed. Please continue to use caution and follow the detour routes as work will continue to finalize Phase 1 and progress Phase 2.
Next week removals at 24th Avenue are expected to continue and the contractor will be working with utility companies with facilities through this area to make adjustments as needed.

Work This Past Week

Northland installed one 108” Storm Sewer Manhole structure, one storm sewer catch basin structure, and 42” RCP & Arch Pipe storm sewer at Prospect and Truman. They installed 18” RCP storm sewer pipe from Prospect to University and three storm sewer catch basin structures and 15” RCP storm sewer pipe at University and Truman.
Current Status of Major Work Items:
Next week: On Monday, Northland Grading plans to continue working on storm sewer main and structures.
Scheduled for Tuesday is watermain construction. Watermain construction will begin at Prospect Street & Truman Avenue on Tuesday. A temporary water service shutdown at Prospect Street & Truman Avenue will be required for this water main work. Any properties affected by this temporary water service shutdown will receive a notice in advance of the shutdown. If delayed for any reason, the watermain construction at this intersection and the temporary water service shutdown will be rescheduled, and affected properties will receive a notice in advance for the rescheduled date.
Throughout the week Northland is planning to work on subgrade preparation and subbase grading work between University Street & Prospect Street.
Concrete curb and gutter paving did not occur this last week so concrete curb and gutter paving may take place next week, weather depending. If delayed by weather or other delays, the concrete curb & gutter paving will be moved back to the next week. Northland may also work on removing the temporary access lane between the Academy Street cul-de-sac and Main Street next week. They will first remove the asphalt millings, fabric, and drainage pipe of the access lane; then later they will remove some of the brush in this area and lastly place back topsoil and seed to put back this area as it was before construction began.
26th Street & State Avenue Roundabout: Construction on the roundabout is proceeding on schedule, and is expected to be completed by early to mid October. Storm sewer is complete. Work is staring on subgrade and base. Curb and Gutter is expected to be placed early next week. UPRR has the ballast for the track raise on order, getting loaded on a train, and it is expected to arrive in the next week or two. The construction is expected to be completed in October.
