Minnesota Senior Games 2013 & 2014!!
Owatonna has been awarded the opportunity to hold the 2013 & 2014 Minnesota Senior Games!!
This will be a great opportunity to make Owatonna “shine”!! Come join us for a meeting on Wednesday, January 27th at 1:00 pm here at SeniorPlace in the Board Room on 1st floor.
The Owatonna Tourism Department along with the City Park & Recreation and SeniorPlace, Inc. will be co-chairing the MN Senior Games and although the event is 4 years out it is not too early to start planning and coordinating now.
The Committee will be charged with everything from fundraising to registration to social events and activities for the athletes as they come to Owatonna for 4 days in July 2013 & 2014. Volunteers are NEEDED!
The Minnesota Senior Games is similar to that of a Senior Olympics with adults between ages 50-99 participating in sports competitions including: Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Horseshoes, Race Walk, Racquetball, Road Race, Shuffleboard, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Triathlon, and Volleyball.
We anticipate between 400-600 athletes from around the Midwest to compete in Owatonna in 2013 with champions and hopefuls coming back in 2014 to compete to qualify for the National Senior Games (location yet to be announced).
