Open Computer Lab

The Computer Lab is open to all members Monday—Friday at no charge. The Lab is closed when classes are scheduled. All computers have high speed access to the internet.

Do You Have Computer Questions?

We will meet with individuals with computer questions. Conversations/appointments will be limited to 30 minutes. First-come first served basis. Class instructors will be available starting 15 minutes after computer classes. No charge (please call the day of a class to verify that a class is being held).

Computer class prices vary depending on the number of sessions, but typically range from $10 to $30. Additional Classes will be added as demand warrants. Check the current newsletter and the reception desk for the latest class availability. Sign up deadline is Friday preceding the first class. If the current dates and times don’t work for you, contact us to see if we can schedule a class that will fit your schedule. Minimum of 2 people for all computer classes. Communicating with Friends using Skype Web Cam

Experience placing and receiving a video phone call, setting up a Skype web video camera and account.

Prerequisite: Beginning Computer 1 or equivalent

Where’s My Pictures, Where’s My Files?

Learn how to find lost files, create, rename, and manage Windows files and folders.

Prerequisite: Beginning Computer 1 or Equivalent

Taking Digital Camera Pictures

Explains the digital camera ‘Auto’ setting and when to use other features for taking better pictures.

Prerequisite: None required.

Beginning Computer 1

An introduction to the Windows Computer System, using the mouse, keyboard, Email address, searching the internet, and using a word processor program.

Beginning Computer 2

A deeper look at the Windows Operating System,

Antivirus, and Firewall software.

Prerequisite: Beginning Computer 1 or equivalent

Intro to Digital Photo Editing (DPE)

Three class levels are offered:

DPE1: Preparing Pictures for Printing and Emailing

Organize digital photos, remove red-eye, crop for printing, and resize for Emailing.

Prerequisite: Beginning Computer 1 or equivalent

Jan. 11, 13, 15 9 – 11 am

DPE2: Improving Your Photos

Improve composition by enhancing and touching up your photos; create a story telling composite Prerequisite: DPE1

Computer Lab 3 Sessions $25

Jan. 19, 20, 22 9 – 11 am

DPE3: Creative Art from Photos

Enhance your photos, make faces radiate, create greeting cards and more. Prerequisite: DPE2

Home Assistance with your Windows Computer

Need assistance with your home computer? The SeniorPlace Tech Staff is available to make house calls to assist SeniorPlace members with their home computer problems. The fee for this is $20.00 per hour within the city of Owatonna with a one-hour minimum. Call SeniorPlace 507-444-4280 and provide your name, address, and phone number.
