The Parks and Recreation Department is now hiring for the following positions:

  • Parks and Building Maintenance II:  28 hours per week, year-round position which offers pro-rated benefits
  • Guest Services Lead:  28 hours per week at various locations, includes pro-rated benefits
  • Guest Services - Tennis and Fitness Center:  10-15 hour per week positions (multiple openings!)
  • Adult Volleyball Official
  • Youth Football Official

Special Events: 

Movies in the Park: Grab your blankets and chairs and enjoy a movie under the stars!  All movies will be featured at Central Park and will begin around 9:00pm with pre-movie activities beginning at 8:15pm.  Concessions will be available.  Click here for more information.

Friday, August 28 (rain date August 29) - Big Hero 6 

National Night Out: Tuesday, August 4, 5:00 - 7:00pm.  On August 4th we would like to see our community come together for National Night Out.  National Night is an event that helps show the community that we will stand together against crime and misdeeds in our neighborhoods.  Games and a short talk from the Owatonna Police and Fire Department will be held!  The entire community is welcome to join together with us.  Click here for event flyer.

Aviation Discovery Camp, Monday, August 10, 8:30 - 11:30am, Cost: $8.00.  This half day aviation experience is for those who have completed 1st - 3rd grades.  This camp will give your child an introduction to the wonders of flight.  They will have an opportunity to learn about model building through the contruction of a simple Styrofoam airplane.  Other hands-on activities will include learning about the parts of the airplane and how they can fly.

Aviation Exploration Camp, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, August 11 - 13, 8:30 - 11:30am, Cost: $25.  This exciting and educational aviation experience is for those that have completed 4th - 7th grades.  Aviation Exploration Camp will introduce your child to wonders of flight through a variety of hands-on activities.  Your child will learn about various types of aviation, aircraft, and flight and will have the opportunity to build and fly a balsa wood model airplane.

Cardboard Boat Race: Sunday, August 23, 10:00am. Calling all pirates! Come set sail at River Springs Water Park on August 23, 2015 at 10am. Build a boat and paddles out of cardboard and duct tape (yes, it does float!) and race against other participants in their boats made out of the same materials. Teams may be made up of one or two people of any age! Prizes will be awarded for the first place team in each heat. Stop by the Parks and Recreation Office to pick up a rules packet. Fee: $10 per team. Deadline: August 14 to register. Minimum of 4 teams for event to run, maximum of 15 teams.

Brooktree Golf Course

Brooktree Golf Course is open!  Check out the "new Brooktree" with many improvements to the clubhouse and course.  Hours of operation: 8:00am to 8:00pm, 7 days a week.

Pavilion Rentals are available one year in advance.  Call the Parks and Recreation office at 444-4321 or stop by our office to make a reservation. Payment is due at the time of the reservation.
