JOB TITLE: Facilities Technician - Plumber

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Maintenance Foreman
DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Seasonal employees
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school graduate with five years of plumbing experience, plus Master Plumbing license, and Special Engineer Boiler's License, or equivalent.
NATURE OF WORK: To perform general plumbing and remodeling of government buildings and other city facilities.
WORK PERFORMED/ AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Responsible for the maintenance of plumbing systems relative to buildings and
grounds.
A. Inspects and repairs plumbing systems as they relate to buildings,
irrigation, and other amenities.
B. Recommends to the Building Foreman replacement items necessary to
maintaining service and safety, or which will improve efficiency.
C. Recommends water, sewer, and gas design considerations as they relate
to remodeling or new construction.
D. Submits reports and maintains files as requested.
II. Participates in the maintenance and inspection of low pressure boiler systems.
III. Performs general building maintenance as directed.
A. Performs independently or assists other employees in a variety of duties
which can include electrical work, carpentry, masonry, painting, plastering,
and grounds care.
IV. Supervises and instructs seasonal employees.
A. Demonstrates and effectively communicates the safe operation of equipment
and tools to seasonal employees.
B. Communicates work orders and directions to seasonal employees and reports
employee problems to the Building Foreman.
V. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
A. Plows and sweeps streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.
EXTENT AND TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH THE PUBLIC:
I. Answers the questions of the general public when in the field, or directs public to
the proper authority.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:
I. Class A, CDL driver's license.
II. Master plumber's license.
III. Boiler license.
IV. Gas fitters license.
V. Reduced Pressure Zone Valve license.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION:
I. Employee must be capable of operating a variety of tools and equipment relative to
this position which shall include but not be limited to: sewer machine, drain cleaner
operation, power pipe threader, drills and demolition hammers, levels, power tools,
hand tools, and calculators.
WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS:
I. Generally 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional evening,
weekend, or holiday work is required. This is a non-exempt position.
II. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and humidity, extreme cold, as well as wet and slippery conditions. While outside the employee is occasionally exposed to direct sunlight, dust, pollen, and equipment exhaust fumes. The employee may need to traverse rough and uneven terrain andpaved and unpaved trails. The employee occasionally works with toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when around machinery or equipment.
In compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act the following represents the Physical and Environmental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to walk on uneven and rough terrain as well as paved and unpaved trails, use hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects, tools or controls; and operate foot controls on equipment. The employees frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. When operating or training others in equipment operation the employee is frequently exposed to bouncing, jostling, twisting, and turning of the upper body. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
