Building Inspections

Effective July 26th, 2010

As a result of the economic downturn, the Owatonna Building Inspection Division is experiencing budget cutbacks. Due to these economic circumstances an additional building inspector will be laid off starting July 31st, 2010. This will leave the Building Inspection Department with 3- full time inspection staff members. Therefore, to facilitate customer contact, plan review and field inspection duties, the department will be implementing time slots of 1-hour in the morning (8am to 9am) and 1-hour in the afternoon (4pm to 5pm) at which time customers may visit with inspection staff to answer questions, consult about codes or inquire about your projects. Our inspection staff will be busy performing field inspections, plan review and other related duties during the remainder of the day and will not be available for walk-in service.

Should you need individual assistance during periods other than the above noted times, please call our office at 507-444-4370 and request a scheduled time to meet with staff.

In addition, staff will attempt to complete plan review of your projects in a timely manner but slight delays may occur. Please be patient and if possible submit your projects with enough lead time to accommodate possible delays.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with these issues.
