Preventing soils from becoming disturbed from their location is the most efficient and cost effective way to avoid soils from being lost.
Used as a sediment buffer, existing vegetation can increase the effectiveness of other sediment control methods and provide added protection around important resource areas. Preserving existing vegetation is a low-cost BMP that will improve the effectiveness of sediment control devices. Existing vegetation will also reduce runoff volume and help capture sediment before leaving the site.
